Man rushed to hospital under police guard after Lygon Street drive-by shooting

A man has been taken to hospital with gunshot wounds after an early morning drive-by shooting on Lygon Street in the heart of Carlton.

The 21-year-old man was wounded while standing on the corner of Argyle Place and Lygon Street, next to Argyle Square park, at about 4am on Saturday morning.

Police believe the shots were fired from a light-coloured car which then fled the scene.

The victim was taken to hospital under police guard with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators have established a crime scene and closed Lygon Street between Queensberry Street and Pelham Street, while police examine the scene.
