A MAN stalked by a former lover who faked a pregnancy after their one-night stand has described the experience as a "proper nightmare".
Jaclyn McGowan's jilted lover has told of how she began 'gaslighting' him after their brief relationship ended, even wearing a fake baby bump to support her bizarre lie.
From June until February 2020, McGowan, from Perthshire, Scotland, continued to contact Jamie Aitken and his mum to discuss baby names and due dates.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Aitken, also from Perthshire, described the experience as a "proper nightmare".
"I only met the woman once. It was after a wedding, she had a hotel room. I don’t really remember it," he said.
"Then a few weeks later she told me she was pregnant."
"I thought I was going to have a child."
She sent copies of her pregnant sister's baby scans to his family, Aitken said, in what he described as an attempt to turn his own family against him.
"She was gaslighting from all these different angles.
"She turned up at my brother’s work when she was meant to be about seven months with this baby bump – I couldn’t believe it.
"It turned out, and I later got told, that her sister was actually pregnant at the same time and that’s where the scan photo came from.
Aitken said she needed to be stopped.
"I want to protect other people from her," he said.
"I hope she gets the medical help she needs."
BABY HOAX
Perth Sheriff Court yesterday heard that the 36-year-old's deception was so detailed that she had even given the non-existent baby a name, Noah.
McGowan was awaiting sentencing after admitted that between 1 June 2019 and 29 February last year she engaged in a course of conduct which caused fear or alarm to a man and members of his family.
At one point, she arrived at Mr Aitken's workplace in Dundee to discuss her pregnancy while wearing a prosthetic baby bump.
She sent him a picture of a cot and requested he give her £300 to pay for it.
McGowan would also tell him that she was having a miscarriage.
The 36-year-old also contacted Mr Aitken's mum, Wendy – telling her that her son would not be attending prenatal appointments with her.
She sent Wendy the fake baby scans and discussed details of made up pregnancy-related appointments with her.
She carried on the act by telling Mrs Aitken she would be able to play a part in bringing her "grandson" Noah up after his birth on March 28, 2020.
McGowan also showed up to her ex's brother's workplace – telling the soon-to-be "uncle" that he could "play a part in the boy's life."
She admitted to turning up at Corrie Aitken's workplace "whilst wearing a prosthetic baby bump."
McGowan has admitted to a charge of stalking and will be sentenced next month.
Solicitor Mike Tavendale told the court that his client had a number of issues, while fiscal depute Lisa Marshall confirmed that McGowan had no previous convictions.
