US medics post videos showing their devastated reaction to ‘losing patients’ in new online trend – but critics blast them for ‘thinking their life is a movie’

  • The trend is supposed to highlight the mental struggles healthcare workers face
  • Yet some videos have received backlash with people calling them ‘horrible’
  • Critics have blast the doctors and nurses for ‘thinking their life is a movie’

Doctors and nurses are taking part in a new trend on TikTok of healthcare professionals posting their devastated reactions to their patients dying.

One nurse said ‘it never gets easier’ after one of her patients died, while a vet pointed out high suicide rates in the profession after he ‘lost four patients to preventable things’.

Although the trend is supposed to highlight the mental struggles healthcare workers in the US have to deal with, some videos have received massive backlash.

Twitter users hit out, calling them ‘horrible’ and a ‘weird flex’. Others blasted them for ‘thinking their life is a movie’.

One social media user said: ‘Makes me feel sick – this is the future we are creating… the world is truly f***** up.’

Another said: ‘People think their life is a movie.’

One user added: ‘If I die in your hospital, don’t use my death for clout on TikTok.’

Videos within the trend have already been viewed tens of millions times on the social media platform.

Registered nurse Olivia Vanderford said ‘it never gets easier’ after she ‘lost a patient’.

More than 1.5 million people liked her video, while 20,000 people commented on it.

One user poked fun at her reaction video, commenting ‘first thing I’d do is make a TiTok as well’, while another bashed her for having ‘no shame’.

However, others praised her strength and one viewer said her ‘dream is to work in a medical field but the idea of losing a patient scares me’.

Meanwhile, Veterinary student Tramone’ Zy’yai Hester filmed his reaction to losing four patients, with the pupil putting his head in his hands.

He posted the clip to TikTok with the caption ‘I love what I do and I wouldn’t pick another career path but this field has one of the highest suicidal rates and we are all overwhelmed daily!’

Response to his video was mixed, with some praising him for taking care of animals, while others slammed ‘this cringy, staged reaction’.
