Meet the ‘Benidorm loving’ nan with 47 grandchildren and 115 great-grandchildren

A British nan with 180 living descendants could smash a world record to become the head of the "world’s largest existing family ".

Jean Clark, 88, from Speke, Liverpool, has 10 children of her own, 47 grandchildren and a whopping 115 great-grandchildren

Her family spans five generations and also includes her 15 great-great-grandchildren, the Liverpool Echo reports.

The Echo reports that currently a man called Ziona Chana in India born on July 21, 1945, is regarded as holding the world record as the head of the "world's largest existing family".

Ziona has 39 wives, 94 children, 14 daughters-in-law and 33 grandchildren, 180 in total – which is four shy of Jean's 184.

Telling all about her bumper family, granddaughter Christine Bird, 46, described her nan as a "fantastic woman with a huge heart and marvellous in every way".

Christine said: "My cousin has just had a baby and I rang my nan up and said come on, how many is this now and she reeled the numbers off.

"We all keep saying that's one for the Guinness book of records but even if it doesn't make that then it'll be something just to have it in the ECHO."

Christine said her nan has been on her own for years and raised her 10 children pretty much single-handedly.

Sadly, out of 10 children, she lost one at six weeks to cot death and one of her daughters developed leukaemia and died aged 12.

Jean also lost her daughter Julie (Christine's mum) in 2017 after a battle with cancer.

Her surviving children are Sue 68, Tony 57, Sandy 58, Jackie 61, Sammy 62, Micky 53 and Karen 49.

Christine added: "She's a feisty little thing and doesn't take any rubbish from anyone.

"She's amazing, very family orientated. Never forgets a birthday. She always sends the kids a birthday card with either a scratch card in it or something.

"And she's dead glam, she loves the bingo and going on holidays – she's absolutely amazing.

"She goes on cruises and absolutely loves Benidorm.

"When she goes it's mostly with her daughter's family or grandson. She used to holiday a lot with my mum when she was alive. My mum was her bingo companion and she misses her terribly.

Despite being a bit down in the dumps with having to stay in a lot right now, Christine said her nan loves speaking to her family by phone and has even more great-great-grandchildren on the way.

She said: "I've got six kids of my own and three grandkids and I've got a fourth grandchild on the way!"
