Meghan Markle ‘to be whisked away for quiet holiday’ by Harry on 40th birthday

Meghan Markle could be whisked away by her husband Prince Harry for a special 40th birthday celebration with her family, it has been reported.

Prince Harry may take the Duchess of Sussex away from their home in Montecito, California, for an intimate getaway, unnamed sources have told Page Six in New York.

Previous reports suggested the mum-of-two will be keeping the celebration very "low-key" with guests enjoying "grazing tables" for snacks, according to The Mirror, although Page Six's source says this is "absolutely not happening".

The sources added that the Sussexes are planning to mark the day with just their immediate family, following the recent birth of their daughter Lilibet.

It is also reported that, with former US President Barack Obama celebrating his 60th birthday on the same day, Meghan has no plans to attend his birthday party at his Martha’s Vineyard home over the weekend.

Last week it was claimed that Meghan Markle's run for the White House may only be a matter of time since their move to the US.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have reportedly been taking advice from former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle since they left the UK.

Prince Harry has been friends with the Obamas for a number of years, after bonding over humanitarian and military issues and Harry's presentations of the Invictus Games for wounded military personnel.

Meghan is hugely fond of the former US First Lady, and she secretly attended a talk Michelle gave in London in 2018.

Since the Obamas left the White House in 2017, they have been on a tour de force, signing book deals, Netflix contracts, selling rights to their autobiographies and even setting up production companies and charities.

Harry and Meghan have adopted a similar approach, signing lucrative deals with Netflix and Spotify.

Tom Rawstorne wrote in the Daily Mail: "The couple have made little secret of their political beliefs.

"During the US election last year they levelled a thinly veiled attack on Donald Trump by urging voters to 'reject hate speech'.

"And earlier this year there were reports that Meghan had been networking among senior Democrats with a view to building a campaign and fundraising teams for a tilt at the US presidency. Watch this space? Yes we can!"

Meghan and Michelle have recently both been seen helping with charitable work, often pictured helping out at homeless shelters or talking to the underprivileged.

Mr Rawstorne added: "Who can blame the Sussexes for adopting a remarkably similar blueprint? Book deals, podcasts, Netflix deals, charitable deeds – they're matching them step for step. Surely a run at the presidency is only a matter of time."
