Meanwhile Sophie Russon and Shane Loughlin remain in critical condition in hospital.

They lay beside the bodies of their friends for 48 hours before being discovered by a member of the public.

He didn’t know any of the group personally but said he was down here to show his respects.

But he added he also felt “really guilty” because he had passed the wooded area where the car was found around 4pm on Saturday when he was on the bus with his son.

He told Wales Online: “My son felt sick and he wanted to get off the bus…that makes me really feel gutted. My son likes to look around – maybe we could’ve found them.”

He added: “It does keep playing through my mind. I just keep thinking we should’ve got off the bus. Maybe if we got off the bus they would still be alive.”

Luke Thole, a friend of Rafel Jeanne, earlier urged people who knew three to attend the vigil at the scene tonight.

He said: “A lot of people plan to turn up as Rafal was a well-known man, we will be laying flowers, setting off balloons and lighting candles in memory of him and the girls from Newport.

“I am asking everybody to bring their cars, motorbikes, or anything to go down to the site with fireworks to make a fantastic display for them.

“We want to brighten up the night sky with a lot of fireworks so they can see it from above.

"Rest in peace to all three involved and my thoughts go out to all the families.

“The floral tributes have been great so far, but they deserve a hundred times more which will happen tonight.”

At the vigil there will be a pink and blue balloon release, a firework display, and lighting of candles.

Yesterday, mourners were seen paying their respects by leaving floral tributes to the three who died.

It comes after Sophie’s mum Anna Cerowicz said she called Gwent Police 20 times over Saturday and Sunday, only to be told her daughter was probably still partying.

Police finally escalated the inquiry, which included launching a helicopter search.

At midnight Anna had a call from her older daughter Georgia, 23, saying the car had been found by a member of the public searching for the pals.

And she blasted Gwent Police for not taking the disappearance of her daughter and her friends seriously.

Anna said: “The next 48 hours are critical – she is having surgery now and we are hoping and praying.
