Mum, 39, breaks down in tears as she apologises for driving her 4X4 into kids outside school | The Sun

A MUM wept today as she apologised in court for driving her 4×4 into a group of children outside a primary school.

Dolly Rincon-Aguilar, 39, allegedly mounted the pavement, struck a tree and wall then drove into the entrance of Beatrix Potter Primary School in Earlsfield, South West London.

The mum hit the accelerator on her Toyota Rav4 instead of the brake and ploughed into pupils and parents, jurors were told.

A seven-year-old boy with his back to the car was knocked into the air, while others as young as six were trapped under the vehicle.

Kingston Crown Court heard 11 people – including seven children – were treated at the scene while four adults and five other kids were taken to hospital.

Two were left with fractures to the face and skull, with one requiring emergency treatment to remove a blood clot, while other suffered "serious" fractures to the leg, arm and eye socket.

Rincon-Aguilar sobbed as she gave evidence today when asked how the horror in September 2020 had affected her.

She said: "I think just my heart is broken in two.

"I just wish that I could take away all the pain and all the frustration."

The mum added: "I want to be able to tell them I'm so sorry because it is the only thing I want to say to them.

The court was told Rincon-Aguilar, who got her UK driving licence for an automatic vehicle in 2019, had not been drinking or taking drugs and had no health issues or problems at home.

There were also no weather obstructions, the radio was not playing at the time and her mobile was secured in her pocket.

Rincon-Aguilar claimed she was taking her time and checked all her mirrors when she started to set off.

She added: "I did press the accelerator gently and the next thing the car just went through the road and it was just so fast and just hit the tree.

"It finished so fast. We were heading towards the main gate, and I thought, I don't know, 'Just stop'.

"When the car wasn't stopping I just thought 'handbrake, handbrake'."
