New Met Office map reveals balmy 26C heat to sweep Britain today… and the weekend will just get better | The Sun

BRITS will bask in temperatures of up to 26C today with the weekend only set to get better according to the latest Met Office forecast.

London and South East England in particular will see the best of the weather today after a dry and bright start with "plenty of sunny spells".

At 4pm today, the UK sees highs of 26C across the south east and east of England, while the rest of the country enjoys a pleasant 15C to 20C.

Holidaymakers had already been spotted flocking to beaches across the country yesterday to enjoy the lovely weather.

And Brits will continue to enjoy the beautiful weather with conditions set to be "very warm in the sun" in the South today.

A Met Office forecast read: "Cloud will bubble up through the day, but it will remain dry with the best of the sunshine in the south and east."

But while most parts in the UK will relax in long periods of glorious sunshine some places may see some patchy, cloudy weather.

Forecasters say showers will continue to affect northern England and parts of central and eastern Scotland until later this afternoon, although a few sunny intervals will develop.

And the great weather does not stop today with Brits set to experience even more sunny conditions come the weekend.

Met Office forecaster Clare Nasir said: “Over the next few days apart from a few showers most places will be dry and warm.

"However, into the weekend it warms up further across more southern and eastern areas whereas to the north and west fresher with outbreaks of rain.”

Forecasters added that it will feel "very warm in the sun" with temperatures potentially hitting a peak of 28C on Saturday.

Any rain is said to be light and patchy in south-eastern areas with Brits mostly enjoying sunny spells.

Saturday could see some light rain first thing but this will clear away bringing bright sunshine and a few clouds.

Sunday should be better still although there could be a chance of some light showers.

The Met Office said: "There are some warm nights to come over the weekend, especially across the south.

"Temperatures only dipping into the high teens in one or two urban spots Saturday night."
