New York’s cutest pooches participated in the 31st Annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade on Saturday.

The parade, touted as the ‘largest dog costume parade in the world,’ was back this year after being cancelled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. 

Hundreds came out to the East River Amphitheater to see pups and their owners strutting in their most festive Halloween attire.

The contestants competed for prizes in several categories including cutest costume and most creative.

The winner of the scariest category was a large dog dressed as Disney’s Maleficent, the powerful fairy who cursed Princess Aurora to prick her finger on a spinning wheel and sleep for many years. Pictured is ‘Maleficent’ with her owner

The winner of the scariest category was a large dog dressed as Disney’s Maleficent, the powerful fairy who cursed Princess Aurora to prick her finger on a spinning wheel and sleep for many years. 

Other costumes included a mailman, characters from Star Wars and a group of monarch butterflies, as well as Thing 1 and Thing 2 from Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat.

Jenna DeAngelis, who served as one of the parade’s judges said selecting this year’s winners was quite the challenge.

‘Being a judge at the Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade was ruff because they were all adogable,’ she tweeted.
