Nigel Farage blasts ‘insane’ cycle lanes in London as he shares video of ambulance stuck in traffic outside hospital next to empty bike track
- A man filmed traffic including a blue light ambulance piling up in central London
- But footage shows widened cycle lane adjacent to the road completely empty
- Nigel Farage shared the clip and slammed the situation as ‘totally insane’
Nigel Farage has branded London’s chaotic cycle lanes a ‘joke’ as he shared footage of a blue lighted ambulance stuck in traffic just metres down the road from a hospital.
The former Brexit Party leader posted a clip on Twitter of a man standing in a deserted cycle lane as dozens of cars remain at a standstill on the road adjacent.
The cycle path, in front of University College Hospital in Euston, had been doubled in size with moveable bollards but it appeared that there was barely any need during daylight hours.

‘Nice one Mr Khan,’ says the filmer in reference to the London Mayor, before adding ‘this is going to cost people’s lives,’ as the ambulance’s siren can be heard in the background.
Tweeting the footage Mr Farage said: ‘This is totally insane. These cycle lanes are a joke.’
Mr Farage has been an ardent critic of Mayor Sadiq Khan’s plan for 160miles of ‘safer cycle routes’ as well as other schemes across the country.
The Brexiteer, who lives in Kent, has previously shared his frustration that country lanes were being ‘commandeered by self-righteous platoons of middle-aged men in tight-fitting costumes’ but in city centres the newly built cycle paths were barely used.

‘The volume of cyclists using many of the new cycle lanes is … so low that they cannot be justified,’ he said last year.
‘In far too many cases, all the lanes and road closures have succeeded in doing is cause traffic jams, therefore increasing pollution and triggering huge frustration in a population that has had about as much as it can take for one year.’
Writing in the Mail on Sunday, Mr Farage suggested it was ‘high time bike riders were regulated, registered and taxed’.
‘When they break the law, they should be prosecuted like the rest of us,’ he added.
