  • After dining out at the restaurant, the former president emerged alone as he waved goodbye to staff trying to give him free ice cream from the restaurant, which normally sells high-end desserts
  • Obama was at the restaurant on Saturday with his two daughters, Sasha and Malia, who live in LA, while Michelle was in Seneca Falls, New York, being inducted in the National Women’s Hall of Fame

Former President Barack Obama’s Secret Service SUV was spotted parked in a handicapped spot for two hours as he dined at a swanky West Los Angeles sushi restaurant with his two daughters.

The black SUV stayed in a spot marked for handicap parking as it waited for the Obamas to finish eating at the pricey Hamasaku restaurant, where eight-piece sushi rolls cost $50 and specialty rolls go for more than $20 each.

The former president was pictured in all white as he stepped out of the restaurant alone while being escorted by secret service agents. His daughters, Malia and Sasha, were not spotted leaving with him.

Obama could be seen waving goodbye to the restaurant staffers and turning down their offer of free ice cream dessert before the agents warned them to stand back as they made their exit.

The family chose to dine at Hamasaku, a trendy restaurant located on Santa Monica Boulevard, in West LA.

Hamasaku boasts a fusion of traditional Japanese sushi with a taste of California, and features a plethora of dishes containing salmon, lobster, crab, tuna, yellowtail and other tasty sealife.

While the restaurant also has several high-end desserts on the menu, including a berrie cheesecake and sake-filled tiramisu, the former president appeared to have wanted a simple batch of ice cream, which he left without.

While his wife was in New York, Obama traveled to Los Angeles, where his daughters live. Malia (right) works as a screenwriter and Sasha (Center) is finishing up college at the University of Southern California

Obama’s visit to LA comes after his two daughters moved to the West Coast to pursue their careers and education.

Malia, 24, moved to LA last year, after graduating from Harvard, to pursue a career as a screenwriter.

In March, Donald Glover revealed that he had given the 24-year-old her first job as a writer on his new series, which is reportedly about ‘a Beyoncé-type character,’ with the actor calling her ‘amazingly talented’ and ‘really focused.’

Glover has not said how Malia – who previously interned on Lena Dunham’s HBO series Girls in 2015 and at The Weinstein Company in 2017 – landed the job after she graduated from college but he added that he believed she has a promising future in the industry.

While Malia is working as a screenwriter, her younger sister, Sasha, 21, is reportedly studying at the University of Southern California after transferring from the University of Michigan.

The two sisters have been spotted out together, along with Sasha’s boyfriend, Clifton Powell Jr., 24, who is the son of Ray actor Clifton Powell.
