ONE in five Brits strips off when watching TV shows set in sunnier climates, according to research.

A survey of 2,000 adults found two thirds of Love Island watchers partially disrobe to ‘get in the mood’ for the saucy programme.

Three quarters of fans of the show even said they’ve watched at least one episode completely in the nude.

And 21 per cent admitted to taking steamy snaps for social media when they’re too hot to wear much in the way of clothing.

More than one in four (27 per cent) have also been made hot under the collar by an episode of Baywatch, resulting in clothes coming off.

Other shows to have the same impact include Bridgerton (23 per cent), Selling Sunset (21 per cent) and Below Deck (20 per cent).

The research was commissioned by energy company Utilita, whose spokesperson said: “Every day our customers’ smart meters collect millions of data points, and our analysis was showing that households were putting their heating on at least once a week during summer – we wanted to understand why.”

It also emerged just under a fifth (17 per cent) of respondents even put their central heating on while watching a steamy show – to make it feel more real.

The same amount have done the reverse in winter, when watching a programme set in snowy surroundings, so they could feel just as chilly as the characters on TV.

The research also found 46 per cent of adults admitted to putting on their central heating during summer months, which makes up the largest part of the energy bill.

More than a tenth (13 per cent) even confess they ‘often’ have the heating on between May and September.

Of those who do fire up the radiators during summer, on average they’ll put it on three times a week per household.

Four in 10 adults polled, via OnePoll, put their winter clothes away in storage when the summer months roll around, and 58 per cent of them ‘begrudge’ digging them back out of the mercury drops – causing them to turn the heating on instead.

Utilita’s spokesperson added: “We’re all guilty of choosing heating over wearing something more weather-appropriate, but it seems what’s on the TV is having a big impact, too.”
