Our romantic getaway was ruined by nightmare hotel stay – we were savaged by bed bugs & BLOOD was smeared on the walls

A COUPLE claim their romantic getaway was ruined after being savaged by bed bugs during a nightmare hotel stay.

Katie Moss and her partner had hoped for a romantic festive getaway to Blackpool's Norbreck Castle Hotel but were instead met with disgusting conditions.

The pair spent two nights at the three-star seaside accommodation, run by Britannia Hotels, which advertises itself as "grand and vibrant".

But instead of the "tasteful décor" they were promised, they faced "blood on the door and wall, filthy carpets, a broken shower and a bed like something out of Coronation Street in the 70s with wooden legs on little black wheels".

Katie told BirminghamLive: "We got up to the room and I was like 'oh my God'. There was all blood up the door and up the wall.

"You could smell the damp, it was like a musty, dirty mop when you mop your floors.

"It was just downhill from there."

Katie went on to describe how the carpet was "full of white chunky powder" and there was hot chocolate "all down the hallway walls".

And it was so grim the mum felt she couldn't take her shoes or even sit in the room due to the "stink and filth".

The duo were so repulsed by the state of their £84-a-night room they refused to eat at the on-site restaurant.

They had hoped to have dinner there on December 25, but instead slurped Pot Noodles on the beach in the cold.

And to top it all off, Katie returned home to Erdington covered in bed bugs, solidifying that "the whole of Christmas had been ruined".

"Who gets bites in December?" she said.

"There were six in a little cluster on my left hip, where the bottom of your back starts.

"I can assure you I didn't go with them. They appeared on the coach on the way back.

"I just wanted to try going away without the kids for the first time. Wow, it was the worst mistake of my life."

While Katie praised the "polite and lovely" staff, she immediately complained.

She said she was initially offered a 20 per cent refund, but has since been given all of her money back.
