Pair face charges over death of 'happy' Down's Syndrome girl who was found with 'severe emaciation' and 'scabies'

TWO people face charges after a “neglected” Down's Syndrome girl died from “severe emaciation” and a horrific skin infection.

Police officers found the body of Deborah Leitch, 24, known as Debbie, after they were were called to a home in Blackpool at around 10.40pm in August, 2019.

A post mortem examination gave the cause of death as severe emaciation and neglect with extensive scabies skin infection.

Following her tragic passing, Debbie's family described her as a "wonderful girl" who was "always happy and always friendly", the Blackpool Gazette reported.

Six people were quizzed as suspects but following a police probe and consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service two people have today been ordered to appear in court.

Elaine Clarke, 48, of Blackpool, has been summonsed to answer the charge of gross negligence manslaughter.

Robert Bruce, 45, of Rothwell, Leeds, is accused of allowing or causing the death of a vulnerable adult.

Neither of the suspects have yet to be charged.

Both suspects are due to appear at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court on April 20.

Four other people were released without charge.
