Police in a rural UK village have arrested a 68-year-old pensioner on suspicion of killing a 49-year-old man.
The incident is understood to have taken place following a “row about a dog”, with police called to the town centre of Storrington, West Sussex, just after 10am on Sunday.
Despite paramedics arriving at the scene, the man was pronounced dead, theMirrorreports.
Residents allege the pensioner and the victim had been arguing over a dog, but police have yet to confirm that detail.
The pensioner remains in custody, Sussex Police said, and that they believed the incident was “isolated”.
The force is currently asking for witnesses to come forward.
A spokesman from Sussex Police said: "Police responded to a report of a man unconscious in High Street, Storrington. Sadly the man was pronounced deceased.
"There is a heightened police presence, including forensic officers, in the area. It is likely the road will be closed for several hours while the investigation continues.
"Members of the deceased man's family are being supported by specialist officers.
"A 68-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
"This is an isolated incident and there is no danger to the wider community.
"Anyone with information which could help detectives with their investigation is asked to report it online or call 101 quoting Operation Kingscross."
The body of the victim was removed shortly after 10am to a hospital nearby. A post mortem is expected to be carried out by a pathologist to confirm the exact cause of death.
