Police are looking for a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman on a CBD street and fled into Flagstaff Gardens earlier this year.

Investigators have released CCTV footage of a man as part of their investigation into the assault of a 28-year-old woman on A’Beckett Street about 10.40pm on January 2.

Police are seeking to speak to this man in relation to an allegation of sexual assault in January 2021.

The woman was walking west near Melbourne’s busy legal precinct when she was approached by an unknown man who grabbed her from behind, detectives have been told.

Police said the man then sexually assaulted the woman before walking away towards Flagstaff Gardens and was last seen running towards King Street.

Detectives have released CCTV footage and an image of a man they believe could assist with their inquiries.

Police say the man was wearing a white hoodie, black tracksuit pants and white sneakers.

Anyone who recognises the man, or has information that could assist police with their enquiries is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
