Police have released an image of a suspect after a female officer was knocked to the floor and kicked in the head by protestors at an anti-lockdown march.

Footage shows the policewoman being carried away by colleagues during the demonstration against the extension of lockdown restrictions in central London at around 8pm on June 14.

She fell down after a struggle broke out when a group of protestors attempted to free one of two people arrested on suspicion of obstructing the highway.

The officer was then kicked in the head while on the ground, said the Met Police.

Detectives have now launched an investigation and identified a man they wish to speak to in connection with the incident.

Social media messages had shown the march was specifically planned to coincide with Boris Johnson’s announcement to the Commons about the fate of the opening plans for June 21.

The Prime Minister said the easing of Covid restrictions would be pushed back until July 19 because of the Delta variant, and to allow more people to receive their second vaccine dose.

Officers had intervened in the demonstration to ‘encourage the remaining protestors to move out of the road so that it could be reopened to vehicles’.

In a statement, the Met added: ‘Some refused to do so, which resulted in two people being arrested on suspicion of obstructing the highway.
