WASHINGTON — More Republicans are demanding House Speaker Nancy Pelosi brief lawmakers on why thousands of National Guard troops are being kept in Washington, DC, until the middle of March.

Rep. Lisa McClain (R-Mich.), who sits on the House Armed Services Committee, said Pelosi (D-Calif.) needed to explain why troops were being kept in the nation’s capital when the threat from last month’s deadly siege had subsided.

“Myself and several of my colleagues have asked Nancy Pelosi for a briefing as to why do we need these troops here, and we have received zero information, zero,” McClain said Monday on “Fox & Friends.”

“It’s amazing to me that she can do this without any disclosure, without any information and just continue to spend money with no briefing,” she went on.

More than 26,000 troops were to deployed to DC ahead of President Biden’s inauguration in the wake of the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection, where authorities were badly outnumbered by supporters of then-President Donald Trump.

US Army officials confirmed that at least 5,000 troops would stay in Washington until mid-March.

A growing number of Republicans in both chambers of Congress are demanding to know why the city is still heavily fortressed when normal government business has resumed.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) said in a Fox News op-ed published last month that the National Guard troops had completed their mission and should be allowed to return home.

Military officials have put the estimated cost of the National Guard troops sent to secure DC at a stunning $500 million — and counting.

McClain said she would rather troops from her state be used to help with COVID-19 vaccination efforts.

“I would rather put those National Guard men and women to help my constituents in my state help with the distribution of the COVID relief vaccination,” she said Monday.

“That, I know, is a credible threat.”
