PSNI issue urgent appeal over missing girl in Castlewellan

Police release CCTV image of missing young girl walking alone down a high street just before 5am as they say they are increasingly concerned for her welfare

  • A young girl was seen walking alone in Castlewellan, Co Down at 4.55am today
  • Police are growing increasingly concerned for the young girl’s safety 
  • Officers are trawling CCTV in the area to try and find where she went 
  • Anyone with information is asked to call the PSNI on 101 quoting 181/30/03/22

Police have expressed concern for the welfare of a young child seen walking alone in a Co Down town in the early hours of the morning.

The girl was seen in the Main Street area of Castlewellan at around 4.55am on Wednesday.

Police attended but did not find the child.

She had been seen walking on the footpath in Main Street near the entrance to Castlewellan forest park.

PSNI officers have viewed CCTV footage of the area and said the child does not appear to turn into the park but continues into the town.

The girl was wearing a light purple coat and pink trousers.

Temporary Chief Inspector Adam Corner said: ‘Police in Castlewellan are becoming increasingly concerned for the safety and whereabouts of a young girl who was pictured on CCTV in the Main Street of Castlewellan just before 5am this morning, Wednesday, March 30, 2022. 

‘The young girl was wearing a distinctive lilac coat with a fur trim around the hood, a pink dress, pink leggings and short ankle boots. 

‘A search operation is underway.’  

PSNI Inspector Conway said: ‘We are very concerned for the welfare of this child and would appeal to anyone with information to contact us urgently on 101 quoting 181 30/03/22.’
