Rapper, 42, who battered man to death with a cider bottle over £10,000 drugs debt before hiding his body in a cupboard is jailed for 33 years

A rapper has been jailed for at least 33 years for murdering a young man in a botched robbery and hiding his body in a cupboard.

Euan Peters, 42, who rapped under the name Sax Coke battered victim Shafiul Islam, 22, with an empty cider bottle.

A court heard that ‘enforcer’ Peters had been employed as ‘muscle’ to retrieve a debt when the attack took place.

Peters had previously appeared in YouTube rap videos bragging about his criminal past in prison and ability to sell drugs.

Two men who helped Peters in the killing and subsequent robbery were convicted of manslaughter.

Prosecutor Mark Wyeth QC said the group had eaten a curry together at a restaurant before travelling to Mr Islam’s flat where the murder happened.

Mr Wyeth said: ‘Police and paramedics found the flat had been ransacked and they discovered the occupant Shafiul Islam was unconscious and partially lying in a cupboard.

‘His eyes were open, he was breathing, he was breathing and he was blood-stained and motionless.

‘He was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital and a CT scan was performed and it was discovered he had suffered a devastating brain injury.’

CCTV showed Peters had picked up an empty bottle of Kopparberg cider from the Indian restaurant which was later revealed to be the murder weapon.

Newport Crown Court heard Mr Islam suffered ‘at least three heavy blows’ from the bottle and died from his injuries six days after the attack.

Judge Mrs Justice Jefford, told the killers: ‘His family had to watch him die slowly until his life support was turned off.’

Newport Crown Court heard dealer Mr Islam was targeted over a debt to the drugs gang believed to be worth up to £10,000.

Peters has appeared in music videos rapping under the name Sax Coke on a series of YouTube videos boasting of selling cocaine and cannabis.

In one song Peters raps outside Cardiff Prison saying ‘f*** HMP’ and boasts about spending 10 years behind bars.

He sings: ‘I’ve been sat in jail putting pen to paper, ten years was long but my mind stayed strong.

‘I was stuck on them wings with those killers and lifers but I made it through fam I’m a born survivor.’

Peters, was jailed for life with a minimum tariff of 33 years after being found guilty of murder following a trial.

Perrie Dunwell, 33, was jailed for 13 years and nine months and aspiring boxer Conlan Dunnion, 23, also of Newport, was locked up for nine years and six months

Dunnion and Dunwell, both of Newport, were cleared of murder but found guilty of manslaughter.

Peters, of Rumney, Cardiff, pleaded not guilty to murder but was found guilty after the trial.

Peters admitted conspiracy to rob. Dunnion and Dunwell denied conspiracy to rob but were found guilty.
