Royal fans puzzled by Harry and Meghan’s donation to ‘borderline trashy’ event

Royal fans have reacted with surprise to the news that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently donated to a “borderline trashy” event in their new home neighbourhood of Montecito.

Harry and Meghan initially moved to Canada when they left the Royal Family, before eventually settling in the luxurious neighbourhood of Montecito in California.

Recently, the Sussexes were reported to be first in line to donate to the Montecito Car Parade, which saw vehicles draped in tinsel and various Christmas decorations as they drove around the neighbourhood’s streets.

And, reacting to the news, the hosts of the Royally Obsessed podcast Roberta Fiori and Rachel Bowie were surprised that the ex-royals had got involved.

“We had the news that Meghan and Harry donated to the first annual Montecito Holiday Car Parade,” Roberta began.

“This was super random, and you and I were both scratching our heads about why this happened.

“Supposedly, they were the first ones to donate. So, were they asked first? Did they say, ‘we should have a car parade?’ How did this happen?”

Rachel responded: “In their defence, I think it looks like they were just trying to find a way to have some outdoor merriment in the town, and they probably wanted to participate as new neighbours to the area.

“I just think some of the pictures of the participants in the local papers were a little out there, but it looked festive and fun.”

Roberta agreed: “It’s like Real Housewives Christmas, it’s borderline trashy, I’m just going to say it. Some people have a different idea of what Christmas is, and that’s fine.”

And, although the Sussexes pledged their financial support to the event, they weren't spotted attending on the day.

“I scoured the pictures for if there were glimpses of them, even in masks or sunglasses or anything, and I don’t think they were there, unless they were inside of a car with tinted windows,” Roberta suggested.

This comes as the royal institution announced that the Queen will spend Christmas with Prince Charles and Camilla, putting to rest any rumours that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex might visit the UK for the festive season.
