How the news was broken to Sasha Walpole: Digger driver who revealed she took Prince Harry’s virginity received mocking text messages from her friends after Duke wrote about his experience with ‘older’ woman
- Sasha Walpole, 40, revealed that she is the ‘older woman’ in Prince Harry’s book
- In ‘Spare’, the prince described how he lost his virginity in a field behind a pub
- After a media furore over the woman’s identity, Ms Walpole confirmed it was her
The ‘older’ woman at the centre of Prince Harry’s embarrassing revelation about how he lost his virginity in a field was faced with laugh-out-loud texts and emojis from friends before deciding to go public.
Digger driver Sasha Walpole, 40, had long since moved on from her time working as a groom at the King’s Highgrove estate in Gloucestershire in the early 2000s.
The mother-of-two was happily settled down with husband Ian when she learned through friends about the highly ridiculed passage in the Prince’s autobiography Spare.
The friend sent her a screenshot of a newspaper story from an Instagram site referring to the ‘older woman’ and the ‘young stallion’. Ms Walpole replied with the single word: ‘F***.’
Later, her friend Bryony – who had been with her on the night of the encounter – sent a humorous message poking fun at 38-year-old Harry’s ‘older woman’ reference with several grey-haired old-lady emojis.

Although she was not mentioned by name, Ms Walpole said Harry’s description of their encounter had enough detail to identify her to mutual friends.
She said: ‘I kept this a secret for 21 years. I did it because Harry was a friend, regardless of whether he’s a Prince or not. I didn’t invite any of this attention, but I know the hunt would have kept going until people found me.
‘I don’t understand why he went into such detail. He could have said he lost his virginity and left it at that. But he described how it happened – in a field behind a pub.’
Although Ms Walpole laughed off the media circus at first, the story continued to grow as speculation grew around the mystery woman’s identity.
Other female friends of the Prince, including actress Liz Hurley, 57, and television presenter Catherine Ommanney, 51, were forced to deny it was either of them.
By January 6, Ms Walpole said she was receiving messages from people she was no longer in touch with, asking about the incident.
Even her parents and her sister Jodie found themselves facing scrutiny over events from more than 20 years ago.

Jodie said: ‘Sasha and Harry were all just in one massive social circle so it wasn’t rocket science to work it out that they’d had sex that night. Even though they thought they had been discreet, they hadn’t.’
Ms Walpole said she was so taken aback by the media storm that she approached a solicitor for legal advice.
‘At first I thought I could hide and that it would blow over. But as the names of different women, some of whom I know, became public I realised that to make the speculation stop, I needed to tell the truth.
‘At least now I can tell my story, in my words, with the correct context and detail, and without panicking. I can stop looking over my shoulder.’
As for Spare, Ms Walpole is undecided about whether she will read it, adding: ‘I don’t know how I feel about buying it. If I got one it would be for the ‘nosy’ factor to see what was actually maybe going on in his head at the time. That would be really intriguing.’
Heir it is! The field ‘where Prince Harry lost his virginity’

The Vine Tree Pub, Norton, Wiltshire where Prince Harry had sex with Sasha Walpole in a field, which the Duke sensationally revealed in his bombshell memoir Spare
Prince Harry recounted losing his virginity to an unnamed older woman at the age of 17 in his explosive autobiography.
The Duke of Sussex, 38, explained how his anonymous first lover treated him like a ‘young stallion’ and detailed how the steamy exchange took place in a field behind a ‘very busy pub’.
In 2001, the royal was still a student at Eton College in Windsor when one of the Royal Family’s bodyguards Marko paid him a visit.
At the beginning of the meeting, Prince Harry says he suspected Marko had heard about the one-night stand – which he described as a ‘humiliating’ experience.
Over lunch in a cafeteria in the city centre, the bodyguard – who had a ‘sombre look’ on his face – told the Prince that he had been sent to ‘find out the truth’.
The father-of-two wrote: ‘I suspected he was referring to my recent loss of virginity, a humiliating episode with an older woman who liked macho horses and who treated me like a young stallion.
‘I mounted her quickly, after which she spanked my ass and sent me away. One of my many mistakes was letting it happen in a field, just behind a very busy pub. No doubt someone had seen us.’
