School strikes are sparking ‘animosity’ in classroom and may be fuelling pupil protests, MP warns | The Sun

STRIKING teachers may have inspired a wave of classroom protests, Tory MPs have warned.

Pupil protests have erupted at several schools over "disgusting" toilet rules with parents claiming students were locked in class.

Furious youngsters were said to be banding together with their peers against new systems that change the way they can use the school loos.

Students at three schools across the country have protested the rules, with videos at two of them showing mass crowds gathering.

Another clip shows pupils at one school chanting "toilets" as they aggressively shake a fence.

Parents say chaos erupted at Cornwall's Penrice Academy, the Farnley Academy in Leeds and Devon's Cullompton Community College.

Tory MPs have suggested there could be a link between school strikes and the demonstrations.

Teachers are set to strike again from tomorrow, causing chaos for parents up and down the country.

School staff will walk out over three days in a dispute over pay and conditions.

Ex-minister and former teacher Jonathan Gullis told The Telegraph: “All these strikes are doing is creating animosity within schools and undermining the confidence of pupils and parents in the education system.

“I hope that teachers call off the strikes, get back in the classroom and bring a sense of calm to the system and not encourage pupils to follow in these overtly political protests that are taking place.”

Students at Penrice Academy allegedly told their mums and dads that everything kicked off there last Friday.

Parents said they'd heard an ambulance and police were called to the school, too.

The youngsters were said to be up in arms after the school said students would not be allowed to use the toilets during lessons.

The pupils were also told they could request "red card period passes" for them to use when required.
