Schools put on ‘lockdown’ as parents told to stay away from ‘highly concerning’ incident | The Sun

MULTIPLE schools have been placed on "lockdown" with parents urged to stay away.

Oswald Road Primary School and Kenwood nursery in Manchester today sent messages to mums and dads to warn them of the update.

According to the former, teaching is still taking place but no one can enter or leave the building.

Kenwood also confirmed children are being kept inside for their safety, MEN reports.

Greater Manchester Police are yet to comment on the incident but officers are reportedly on the scene.

Oswald Road Primary School said: "School has put into partial lockdown – this means teaching will be taking place as usual, but nobody can come in or out of the building.

"Please not come to school at this time."

A further email added: "Please note that all children are safe and there is no threat in the building. All external doors have been locked and currently normal school activities are still taking place.

"We appreciate this is highly concerning, however we would urge parents not to call the office at this point so that we can continue to keep the phone lines clear."

Kenwood added: "We have been informed that the local schools have gone into lockdown due to safety reasons. We have also gone into lockdown as we are in the neighbouring area until further notice.

"All children will be kept inside the building until further notice, all children and staff are safe and sound.

"At this moment in time I would like to to ask parents to call the nursery ahead of time to let us know you are coming."

A later email told parents that "the police were immediately informed and have visited the school".

They say cops have deemed the incident as "low risk".

It comes as Redbridge Primary in East London was placed on lockdown today due to a "credible threat".
