Supporters of President Donald Trump mocked Sen. Mitt Romney at a Utah airport for not supporting the President ahead of Congress counting the presidential election’s electoral vote results.
In a video posted to Twitter, Romney appears to be waiting for his flight from Salt Lake City to Washington, DC in the waiting area when an angry woman approaches him and calls him out for not siding with President Trump’s claims of election fraud.
“Why aren’t you supporting President Trump? You’re not supporting him,” the woman asks.
“I do support President Trump,” Romney answers. “I’m sorry, I do agree with many of the things he’s for and I support him.”
The woman was unhappy with the answer and continued to press Romney about the election results.
“It’s a long story but it’s a constitutional process and the constitution is clear,” Romney says. “I will follow the constitution and I will explain all that when we meet in Congress this week.”
“You were voted in as a conservative to represent the conservative constituents. Period,” the woman barks back.
“Actually, that’s not how the constitution works,” Romney replies before closing his laptop and walking away.
Another video shows passengers inside a plane shouting, “Traitor! Traitor! Traitor!”
Romney has expressed he will vote to certify President-elect Joe Biden’s election victory.
The Republican senator has even called out his fellow GOP colleagues for opposing the certification the presidential election results.
“The egregious ploy to reject electors may enhance the political ambition of some, but dangerously threatens our Democratic Republic,” Romney said in a statement Sunday.
“The congressional power to reject electors is reserved for the most extreme and unusual circumstances. These are far from it. More Americans participated in this election than ever before, and they made their choice.”
