Seven dead in Half Moon Bay shootings at California mushroom farm and second location as suspect Chunli Zhao arrested | The Sun

SEVEN people are dead and one is in critical condition after another mass shooting rocked California on Monday.

Four people were found dead at one location in Half Moon Bay while three others died at a second scene several miles away, cops said.

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office first got calls about the shootings at 2.30pm local time.

One incident was said to have taken place at the Mountain Mushroom Farm in Half Moon Bay, about 30 miles south of San Francisco.

Four people were found at that location suffering from gunshot wounds, said police.

All four died from their injuries.

A fifth victim was taken to Stanford Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Three additional victims were found dead at another farm less than three miles from the first scene, the sheriff said.

Two hours after the shootings, a deputy spotted a suspect inside a car at a sheriff's station in town.

Video showed the suspect, later identified as Chunli Zhao, 67, being taken into police custody.

A weapon was found in his car and cops believe he acted alone, the sheriff said.

San Mateo County Board of Supervisors President Dave Pine said Zhao worked at one of the businesses and described him as a “disgruntled worker.”

However, a motive for the shooting is still unknown, Captain Eamonn Allen said.

Half Moon Bay Councilmember Debbie Ruddock said that the victims were Chinese farm workers.

State Senator Josh Becker said on Twitter: “Deputies are responding to this active situation in the area of HWY 92 and HMB city limits.

“Gun violence has come to our district today and I will do whatever I can to support the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Department and Half Moon Bay city officials during this tragic event.”

The Mountain Mushroom Farm is in an area that is known to house marijuana-growing farms, whereas the second location is south of the downtown area, reported ABC7.

The sheriff called both locations "nurseries."

The tragedy is still being investigated.

The seven deaths mark the second mass shooting in California in days.

Eleven people died after a mass shooter opened fire at a ballroom in Monterey Park on Saturday.

Huu Can Tran, 72, is accused of opening fire at a ballroom dance club during Lunar New Year celebrations.

Tran was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound 30 miles away in Torrance, police said.
