'Several people' injured as ambulances rush to the scene after petrol station explosion in Donegal | The Sun

AN explosion has destroyed a service station in Co Donegal.

The explosion happened at the Applegreen Service Station on the outskirts of the village of Creeslough just after 3pm.


A number of emergency vehicles including fire brigades and ambulances are at the scene.

Roads into the village have been cordoned off and a Major Emergency Plan has been sparked at Letterkenny University Hospital

It is understood that a number of injured people and are now being treated at the hospital.

It's believed that several people may have been trapped at the scene, according to the Irish Independent.

A spokesperson for LUH said "Letterkenny University Hospital is dealing with a serious incident, with multiple injured people requiring immediate attention.

"The hospital has moved to Major Emergency Standby as it deals with this incident.

"We are appealing to the public not to come to the Emergency Department unless it is an emergency. Please contact your GP or NOW doc service in the first instance.

"NowDoc has increased staffing this evening to help deal with any additional demands."

The explosion has resulted in a major collapse at the premises.

A number of cars have been damaged as a result of falling debris.

The main part of the building which also contains apartments have been severely damaged.

Gardai, who are at the scene, asked road users to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana said: "Gardai are currently assisting other Emergency Services at the scene of a serious incident at Creeslough, County Donegal.

"An Garda Siochana are asking any road users intending to travel to Creeslough to consider alternative routes."

A spokesperson for Applegreen said they are aware of the "serious incident" at the Creeslough station.

They added: "Emergency services are on the scene and are dealing with the incident."
