Sydney Parham mugshot: Who is the Michigan woman who ’set her boyfriend’s jeep on fire’? – The Sun | The Sun

SYDNEY Parham was arrested in 2020 in connection with setting her boyfriend's Jeep on fire.

A video was released showing Parham pouring gasoline on the vehicle before it exploded.

Michigan native Sydney Parham, 28, went viral after a video of her setting fire to her boyfriend’s Jeep after she allegedly caught her boyfriend cheating and decided to set his Jeep ablaze.

Firefighters were called to find the car fully engulfed in flames in the parking lot of the San Remo Apartment complex at about 8am on July 22, 2022.

The video obtained by authorities showed Parham pouring gasoline on the car before using a stick lighter to ignite the blaze which exploded in her face and sent her flying backward.

Parham was apprehended and arrested later that day and was charged with arson on July 24 and was held on a $20,000 personal bond.

She pleaded guilty to the arson charges, which are a misdemeanor, in a trial held in May 2021. She was originally charged with third-degree arson which could have resulted in a 10-year prison sentence.

Instead, as part of her plea deal for the arson charge, she was sentenced to 18 months on probation.

Claims online had alleged that Parham caught her boyfriend cheating and decided to set his Jeep on fire as a result.

However, when the Jeep's owner, Avery Stevenson, went to the impound lot to see what remained of his Jeep, he told ClickonDetroit that he did know Parham but he was not her boyfriend.

He told the outlet he didn't know what Parham's motive could be.

Stevenson said his daughter's belonging had been destroyed in the fire and shared a video of the Jeep's remains with Fox2News which was reposted on Twitter.

The video's caption said: "The Jeep’s owner, in a viral video that has lit social media on fire, says he knew the woman that did this but it wasn’t his girlfriend. He gave us this video of the charred remains…RIP Jeep."

Authorities tracked Parham to her Fraser home after residents at the apartment complex described her and shared the video of her setting the Jeep on fire.

Parham was seen leaving her apartment later that day and was arrested during a traffic stop with help from Roseville police and taken to the Macomb County Jail.

Tenants said they were shocked by the explosion that rocked their complex that morning.

Jerome Doster who lived at the complex told Fox2News: "I was at a loss for words, I couldn't believe it was going on."

However, Tenant Nia Ashford and her boyfriend Sydney Pearson told Fox2News they weren't aware of the fire until they saw the video posted online.

"I don't think that was necessary, she blew herself away," Ashford said, adding she just, "thought it was some viral video."

Pearson said: "I said that looks like it could be our complex. We were joking about it."

Doster told the outlet: "Somebody could have gotten killed."
