A TORY politician is embroiled in a fake news row after he was Photoshopped into a campaign picture ahead of the local elections.
Ex MP David Burrowes was inserted into a photo along with his dog before the image was sent to a local newspaper.
After the bizarre gaffe was flagged up, Conservative campaigners apparently admitted it was a blunder and corrected the picture.
But they have refused to explain how it happened.
The doctored image was published by the Enfield Independent last week after being provided by Tories in the North London borough.
It accompanied a story about a campaign to make a local road junction less dangerous.
The Evening Standard reported that Mr Burrowes arrived to join the campaigning group shortly after the photograph was taken.
But some activists left because they didn't want to be pictured with the former Tory MP.
Instead of taking a new photo with the smaller crowd, local party chiefs decided to doctor the original picture.
After the image was published by the local paper, the mistake was spotted and corrected.

But Enfield Conservatives have declined to comment on why they decided to alter the image.
Mr Burrowes lost his Enfield Southgate seat last year after serving as an MP for 12 years.
