Two teens seriously injured in 'gas explosion' at house as three others rushed to hospital | The Sun

TWO teenagers are seriously injured following a suspected gas explosion at a house in South Wales.

A woman, 18, and a 19-year-old man were rushed to hospital with burns after the blast in Dowlais, Merthyr Tydfil, last night.


Three others were also taken to A&E, WalesOnline reports.

All five were in the property at the time, the Health and Safety Executive said.

The cause of the explosion is not yet known.

Emergency services raced to Glanmor Gardens at around 10.30pm on February 1.

Neighbours were evacuated from their homes and the area cordoned off while investigation work continues.

The incident was brought under control by 11.46pm, according to South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

Natasha, who lives nearby, described hearing yells for help at about 10.20pm.

The mum-of-three, 33, said: "I came to the doorstep and that’s when I could hear a man screaming, 'Call 999'.

"I walked to the end of the drive and I could just see the family outside in their pyjamas, just screaming and completely distressed.

"All the neighbours started coming out then and we ran up and they said there had been an explosion."

An HSE spokesperson said: "HSE has been made aware of a suspected gas explosion in a family home in Merthyr Tydfil.

"There were five people in the house at the time and they were all taken to hospital.

"Two people remain in hospital with burn injuries. These are not believed to be life threatening.

"HSE is investigating the cause of the explosion."

Local policing inspector Jon Duckham from South Wales Police said: "A number of properties on Glanmor Gardens were evacuated due to damage caused.

"Two people, a 19-year-old man and a 18-year-old woman, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
