Victoria has recorded no new local cases of coronavirus after a Melbourne man who tested positive for COVID-19 after returning by plane from Sydney on Sunday worked for three days in a Sandringham dry cleaners where he appears to have passed on the virus to his boss.
Eighteen new exposures sites were added to the Victorian government’s official list of high-risk venues on Thursday afternoon and throughout the evening – the first new sites in eight days – just hours before eased restrictions came into effect across the state.
Victoria officially recorded two new cases of COVID-19 yesterday, but both cases were revealed yesterday, meaning the state has recorded no further new cases of the virus.
There were 21,991 tests processed yesterday, and 18,019 vaccine doses were administered.
The new Victorian outbreak grew to two on Thursday, after the owner of the bayside dry cleaners tested positive to COVID-19.
The 61-year-old owner of the business, who lives in Burwood East and is the boss of the Melbourne man who tested positive after a trip to Sydney, was expected to be transferred to a quarantine hotel to isolate.
His four family members have also been tested, are isolating and are awaiting their results.
The first positive case connected to the dry cleaner, a man who lives in Oakleigh, may have had contact with as many as 100 people over the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday that he worked, his boss says.
The Oakleigh man attended a West Hoxton birthday party in Sydney over the weekend that has been described as a “super spreading event”.
He flew home on Jetstar flight JQ523, which departed Sydney at 5.30pm on Sunday, June 20.
The new exposure sites include Sandringham Dry Cleaners (a tier-1 site over three days), the Jetstar flight from Sydney to Melbourne (tier 1), a bus trip and visits to grocery stores (tier 2) and train trips between Broadmeadows, Flinders Street and Oakleigh stations (a mix of tier 2 and 3 sites).
Anyone who was on a train that travelled between Broadmeadows and Flinders Street stations on June 20 from 8.15pm to 8.38pm then from Flinders Street to Oakleigh Station from 8.52pm to 9.15pm should urgently get tested and isolate until receiving a negative result.
On that same day, these sites are listed as tier-3 sites, meaning peope should get monitor for symptoms: Broadmeadows station between 7.55pm and 8.15pm, Flinders Street station between 8.38pm and 8.52pm and Oakleigh station from 9.15pm to 9.30pm.
Shops at Burwood East, Forest Hill and Black Rock have been listed as tier 2 sites meaning people who visited those sites at the listed times need to get tested urgently and isolate until receiving a negative test result. You can check the Victorian government site here.
COVID-19 restrictions eased across Victoria at 11.59pm on Thursday. Up to 15 people can now visit homes across the state up, from a current two-person limit in Melbourne and five-person cap in the regions.
Public gatherings are permitted for up to 50 people. The work from home requirement will be lifted but masks must be worn indoors.
