A WALKER has died after suffering a "serious injury" in a fall while exploring at a popular Peak District destination.
Mountain rescue workers were called to a footpath above Speedwell Cavern in the Peak District at around 7pm on Saturday to reports of a walker who had fallen and was unconscious with a head injury.
A group of friends had been visiting the area for the weekend when one slipped and fell a distance down the hill, according to the Edale Mountain Rescue Team.
Tragically, the injuries were "incompatible with life" and the walker was pronounced dead at the scene.
