Watch the insane moment a shark attacks fisherman in knee-deep water

Insane moment shark charges at fishermen standing in knee-deep water of one of Australia’s most pristine islands – as incredible footage shows how they survived the attack

  • The fishermen were at Cocos Keeling Island, northwest of Perth, WA
  • Reef shark slammed into their legs as they were hunting for bonefish
  • The anglers stabbed the water with the rods to scare away the shark

Two fishermen have bravely gone toe-to-toe with a rabid shark in shallow waters off a remote island just off Australia.

Kane and Josh Hutchins were forced to furiously stab the water with their rods to avoid an attack on Cocos Keeling Island – a group of coral enclaves 2,750 kms northwest of Perth, Western Australia.

‘Get out! Get out of here!’, the pair yelled as the reef shark frantically slammed into them during a routine fishing trip.

‘Bloody hell, he was so close to biting me then’, Josh can be heard saying on the footage which emerged on social media on Tuesday, March 9.

The shark retreated back into the ocean after it attempted to attack the two fishermen

The anglers were filming a fly fishing documentary when the terrifying encounter played out just metres from shore.

The friends were catching bonefish when the beast lurking nearby suddenly jetted towards them taking them by surprise.

‘The sharks were eating everything we hooked,’ Kane said.

The reef shark slammed into Josh while he was just knee-deep in the pristine ocean off Australia’s west coast.

‘This particular shark chased the fish all the way into Josh’s leg and was so fired up that it hit his legs and went straight through’, Kane said.

Josh began to furiously stab the water with his fishing pole as the beast repeatedly went in for the attack.

He frantically leaped on the spot, thrashing his fishing pole to scare the monster away.

Kane was then forced to kick the animal as it honed in on his legs in another attempt to claim a victim.

The footage, posted on Twitter, received widespread praise from fellow fishermen and swimmers.

‘I had the same thing happen to me when I was in less than knee deep water off a small island and was chased by a Bull shark to shore’, one man tweeted.

‘The little shark was chasing something and big feet got in the way’, another said.

‘If there isn’t wildlife trying to kill you, are you really in Australia’, another replied.
