We found the ‘biggest spider in Britain’ at home… I’m so terrified that I eat my dinner in my bedroom | The Sun

A LAD left so scared after the "biggest spider in Britain" moved into his family's home has vowed to eat dinner in his room until the whopper is gone.

Scott Elwood, 24, had only just got back from a holiday in Greece when mum Helen said she had found an unwelcome eight-legged guest in the front room.

The creepy news forced Scott, brother Mason Stott, 19, and stepdad Dean Stackhouse, 40, to track down the "size-of-your-palm" critter.

After searching high and low for 30 minutes, they found a menacing webbed lair tucked in the skirting board next to their dining table where the family eat their tea.

In creepy footage shared on video sharing site TikTok, Dean can be seen twirling a toothpick into a web to bait the spider.

But moments later the arachnid darts out of its hovel and attacks the toothpick leaving Scott screaming: "Oh my God that is evil.

"Look how big that f***er is, it's f***ing massive that… Jesus".

The lad, of Oldham, Greater Manchester, said: "It could potentially be the biggest spider in Britain. I'd say it's the size of your palm when it's stretched out.

"I eat my tea upstairs. I won't be eating my food in there again until it's found and taken away from the living room, I'll tell you that.

"I absolutely hate them."

"Squeamish" Scott shared his brother's shocking footage on TikTok where it's been viewed more than eight million views.

It sparked a flurry of comments with many left horrified.

One said: "What is going on in the UK????????"

Another added: "I'd give him my house keys and move out."

A third quipped: "The fact that you see it’s eyes reflecting."

Meanwhile a fourth even recommended sucking the beast up with a hoover.

Worryingly, the spider – whose species is unclear – has not been seen since the video was filmed, and Scott finds himself checking everywhere when he walks through.

And it's worse at night with the terrified lad arming himself with a torch whenever he's in the front room.

He added: "If I'm honest, I don't know what to do next.

"We're waiting until the next time we see it and from there we'll just decide and make a plan as a family as to how we're going to deal with this thing."

And although he's now too afraid to eat his tea in the room, the spider is now "famous" and amazingly, Scott reckons it "deserves to live on".

The family are hoping to eventually release it outdoors.

Scott added: "If it's grown that big it's definitely been alive for a long time, I don't want to be the one that ends its life. I think it deserves to live on."

CREEPY CRAWLY

Do UK house spiders bite?

All spiders can bite – that’s how most subdue and kill their prey – but only a small number have fangs that are strong enough to pierce human skin.

Spider bites are quite rare, so there is generally no cause for concern if you see spiders in your home.

Of the 650 species of spider found in the UK only about 12 species have been recorded as being able to bite us and these are larger spiders.

Symptoms have usually been described as localised pain and swelling.

In the rare event of symptoms more acute than these, medical advice should be taken.

If you pick up a spider, as with any living creature, you should remember that it is delicate and handle it with care and respect.
