Who are Shaun King's parents?

SHAUN King is a well-known author whose written about civil and human rights – and is the co-founder of the Real Justice PAC.

King is widely recognized for using his social media pages to promote social justice causes, including the Black Lives Matter movement.

Who are Shaun King's parents?

King, 41, was born and raised in Versailles, Kentucky.

The 41-year-old's birth certificate names Jeffrey Wayne King as his father, but in 2015, King told the Washington Post his mother, Naomi Kay, told him his biological father is a light-skinned black man.

“The reports about my race, about my past, and about the pain I’ve endured are all lies. My mother is a senior citizen.

"I refuse to speak in detail about the nature of my mother’s past, or her sexual partners, and I am gravely embarrassed to even be saying this now, but I have been told for most of my life that the white man on my birth certificate is not my biological father and that my actual biological father is a light-skinned black man,” King said in a statement to The Post.

“This has been my lived reality for nearly 30 of my 35 years on earth. I am not ashamed of it, or of who I am—never that—but I was advised by my pastor nearly 20 years ago that this was not a mess of my doing and it was not my responsibility to fix it.

"It is horrifying to me that my most personal information, for the most nefarious reasons, has been forced out into the open and that my private past and pain have been used as jokes and fodder to discredit me and the greater movement for justice in America.”

King said his mother was married and divorced several times – as she raised him and several siblings as a single mother.

The civil rights activist said that he never knew who his biological father was.

Why is Shaun King trending?

Samaria Rice – the mother of Tamir Rice, 12, who was gunned down in 2014 by police in Cleveland – ripped King in a recent social media post.

Rice said she never gave King “permission to raise nothing” and criticized the Real Justice PAC co-founder for having “robbed me for the death of my son.”

In an Instagram post shared June 22 – where Rice seemingly responded to a recently released episode of King’s podcast – she said she was given a “cop and donut conversation” full of lies.

“Why do you think it’s so important to tell folks we had a conversation?” Rice asked in her post.

“Well we talked and everything that was said was very toxic and uncomfortable for me to hear that you raised additional money and then say you did not want to bother me.

"Personally I don’t understand how you sleep at night.”

Rice referred to reports that King allegedly embezzled thousands of dollars by exploiting her son’s name.

The mother also revived criticism of King’s fundraising practices that came under fire when a 2015 Washington Post article couldn’t account for $60,000 in online donations.

Rice urged King to “stop thinking” they are on the same page.

“As a white man acting Black you are a imposter that can not be trusted,” she said, adding that King was a “selfish self-centered person” who had made her son’s death about himself.

“God will deal with you, white man,” she added to her post.

However, the families of Nia Wilson, Philando Castile, Terence Crutcher, and multiple other people killed in recent years have vouched for King.

According to reports, King's podcast episode in question was originally released under the title "I spoke to Samaria Rice this past week."

In the episode description, which was officially billed episode 469 of The Breakdown, King claimed he and Samaria had a “much-needed conversation” during which he “learned a lot.”
