Woman is found dead in River Thames near pub in Maidenhead: Police probe ‘unexplained’ death and try to ID body

  • The body was found by a walker just after 7.15am this morning in Maidenhead
  • Police went to the scene but have been unable to formally identify her yet
  • Her remains were discovered yards away from popular Boathouse restaurant

A woman’s body has been found dead in the River Thames, just yards from a popular restaurant.

Detectives are present in Boulters Lock, Maidenhead after a report of a woman’s body in the river at 7.15am today.

It is understood that a walker sounded the alarm after spotting something in the waters. 

Divers have managed to recover the woman from the depths but have been unable to formally identify her.

It happened just yards away from The Boathouse pub and restaurant which is situated on the banks.

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: ‘The death is currently being treated as unexplained and officers are working to establish the circumstances, and also identify a next of kin.

‘Boulters Lock and Cookham Lock are both closed at this time, and a scene watch is in place.

‘We would politely ask that members of the public avoid the area.’
