A young mother has been diagnosed with cervical cancer for the third time, as she revealed her fears at not seeing her 10-year-old son grow up. Elissa Blake from Brisbane had been due to mark her 30th birthday this year, however celebrations have been put on hold as she fought to undergo treatment costing thousands of Australian dollars, after doctors told her the disease was now incurable.

Ms Blake, a nurse who lives in Brisbane, has now been diagnosed wirh cervical cancer three times in three years, and this time it has reached stage 4.

Just months after recovering from treatment the second time round the nurse was “taken out” by crippling pain.

She told Daily Mail’s FEMAIL: “I kept going to the doctors but they just gave me pain killers and sent me home.

“I knew something was wrong, it wasn’t normal for someone to be in that much pain.”

The young mum said she would spend days in bed, with her son Chase checking in on her with heat packs and cuddles.

She said: “I lost 15kilos because I lost my appetite completely.”

Ms Blake is now attempting immunotherapy in a last-ditch attempt to fight the cancer off for good, so that she can be there for her 10-year-old while he is growing up.

Her aunt Shondi Hardman has set up a GoFundMe to help the family pay for the treatment, which can cost between A$7,000 to A$63,000.

She said: “Doctors never offered it, we only knew about it because some friends told us to look into it. Doctors have admitted it is Elissa’s best chance to become cancer free.

“The fact it isn’t free for her cancer, but is for others, is the hardest pill to swallow. That’s why they don’t tell people about it, but they need to give families that option.”

The cancer came back just weeks before Ms Blake’s 30th birthday, with plans for her to now celebrate her 31st instead.

She continued: “I had planned to celebrate getting through cancer, turning 30 and having a second chance at life. So the plan is to push that back to 31.”

Her sister Alison, who also works in the healthcare sector, has said seeing her in so much pain is “unbearable” and has opened her eyes to the patient experience more.
