Carey Mulligan showed up to the 93rd Academy Awards ceremony dressed like an Oscar — stunning gold dress and all — but we can’t take our eyes off her hairstyle. The updo that Mulligan wore with her strapless ballgown looks simple from the front, but there’s a fun twist (literally) in the back.

Celebrity hairstylist Jenny Cho created the masterpiece and documented the entire process from start to finish on her Instagram Story. The first step was curling Mulligan’s shoulder-length blond hair using the GHD Curve 1″ Classic Curl Iron ($199). Then, Cho twisted it up to create the twisted bun that we saw on the red carpet.
