Eddie Hall and Hafthor Bj\u00f6rnsson’s Boxing Showdown Is on Hold

After a year-plus of smack talk and training montages, the much-anticipated boxing match between rival World’s Strongest Man winners Eddie Hall and Hafthor Björnsson has officially been delayed. Hall announced on Instagram that he detached his biceps during a training session last Monday, and underwent surgery to repair the muscle on Thursday.

“AWAKE and recovery is going well. Unfortunately this means the fight between me and Thor will be rescheduled,” he wrote in the caption.

Originally, the fight between Hall and Björnsson (dubbed “The Heaviest Boxing Match in History”) was scheduled for September 18, 2021. There is no official re-match date, as of yet. However, according to BarBend, a Coresports press release confirmed the bout is delayed until sometime in March or April 2022. That will mark almost two years from the time the bout was first announced in early May of 2020.

But Hall got plenty of love in his post’s comment section. Strongman Robert Oberst commented, “I’ll step in for you little brother,” while Nick Best commented, “Great to see the surgery went so well! Heal up , come back, and take care of business!”

Meanwhile, Björnsson also reacted to the news in his own Instagram post that featured a photo of himself sitting next to a ring.

“Super disappointed but this is not in my hands,” he wrote in the caption.

While Björnsson didn’t have any well wishes for Hall—the two have consistently shown their distaste for each other as they have prepared for the fight—he instead shifted the focus to finding a new competitor in September to take on as another opportunity to prep for the Hall fight.

“I’m taking this extremely serious and I’ll be even more prepared. When Eddie is ready, I’ll be waiting ⚔️,” he wrote.

Bodybuilder Ryan Crowley commented, “Sorry to hear man! Keep working bro 🙌🙌.”

The fight promoters, MTK Global Boxing, also released a statement on Twitter that included footage of the moment Hall injured his bicep.
