Finding ‘Ohana<\/em> Star Alex Aiono Shared His Quarantine CrossFit Workout

The Netflix adventure movie Finding ‘Ohana follows siblings Pili and Ioane as they connect with their Hawaiian heritage while on a Goonies-style search for long-lost treasure. And while this kind of epic quest requires a lot of heart and courage, you also need to be on point when it comes to your physical and mental health, according to Alex Aiono, who plays Ioane.

“A healthy body and a healthy mind are the only way that you’re going to make it through anything,” he says. “Not just a treasure hunt, but a hard day, or a hard time, or a hard year. It’s so important to keep yourself healthy.”

In a new video released by Netflix, Aiono shares some of the exercises he’s been using to stay fit during quarantine, which viewers of any age or ability level can try for themselves at home.

The workout starts off simply enough, with a set of jumping jacks. “You want to get some good cardio in, so your heart is racing, you’re building up a sweat,” he says, before moving onto strength training.

“I think it’s a misconception that you need big weights to put up big strength,” he says. “All you need is a couple of household items.” He then demonstrates how easy it is to target your triceps dips with bench dips, using an ordinary chair.

He then shows how you can perform bicep curls using a backpack that’s been filled with books or other items in place of a dumbbell. “No matter how heavy or how light it is, if I do this curl enough times, my arm’s going to hurt, it’s going to get sore,” he says, “and that’s what you really want.”

Aiono also demonstrates a series of bodyweight exercises, including the proper form for pushups to target chest and arms, and planks, banana holds and Superman holds to build core strength. Check out his full Finding ‘Ohana home workout below:
