Alex Beresford addresses GMB absence from hospital bed after operation ‘Pain incoming’

GMB: Alex Beresford calls Charlotte Hawkins a ‘diva’

Good Morning Britain presenter Alex Beresford, 40, has told fans that he had to undergo an operation which admittedly left him feeling “groggy”. The ITV favourite took to his respective Twitter and Instagram accounts to post an image of himself from his hospital bed as he admitted it was the first operation he has ever had.

The dad-of-one could be seen wearing a striped hospital gown as he gave a thumbs up.

In view of his 66,000 Twitter followers, Alex penned: “Tonsils extracted, pain incoming… but all went well.”

The GMB presenter later took to Instagram and shared another update as the presenter explained he was recovering.

“Tonsillectomy completed! Feeling groggy! All remedies welcome,” Alex wrote.

In a video posted to Instagram hours before his procedure, Alex said: “Hey guys. I hope everyone is having a good Wednesday.

“I have just checked into the hospital because I am having a tonsillectomy today. I’m having my tonsils out.”

He added: “I’m not even gonna read any comments that I get, because I’m sure it’s gonna be, ‘oh it’s painful’, ‘oh, it’s gonna hurt’ – and I know all of this.

“I won’t lie, I’m a bit nervous because I’ve never had an operation before. I know kids get this all the time or used to, so there’s nothing to worry about.”

Celebrity pals and fans alike rushed to comment on the post, as they offered their well wishes to the GMB forecaster.

His co-host Ranvir Singh penned: “Ah bless. You have a good rest and see you soon.”

A Place In The Sun’s Laura Hamilton typed: “Sending love.”

James Jordan offered: “Get well soon mate.”

Fans also gave suggestions as they urged Alex to keep away from certain food and drink.

One person advised: “Speedy recovery. Take ginger and lemon tea.”

Another suggested: “No fizzy drinks or citrus things. (27 years later I still remember the pain…) Chewing gum to strengthen throat and ice in all drinks including milk!! Get well soon.”

Alex explained that his doctors advised him to stick with soft foods during his recovery.

He tweeted: “So the advice is different to what most think! They want me to eat scratchy food like toast, crackers, biscuits to help pull away all the nasty stuff that forms on the back of the throat during the healing process #tonsillectomy.”

In a previous tweet, Alex shared a snap of himself laid out on a hospital bed while watching Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain ahead of his operation.

He captioned the post: “Just checked in for my tonsillectomy.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
