Alex, 36, previously revealed that she had “big shoes to fill” after it was revealed that she was becoming the next face of Football Focus.
The revelation came after Dan Walker, 44, decided to step down from the hit BBC programme after fronting it for 12 years.
Former Arsenal player Alex made her debut on Saturday and her appearance went down a storm with viewers who shared their excitement after the “much-needed” change.
In a new interview, Alex has revealed that Dan Walker offered her a boost with her broadcasting career several years ago.
The London born star who has also made over 140 appearances for the England women’s national team created history when it was announced she was the first permanent female presenter of Football Focus in its 47-years.
Speaking to BBC Sport, she said: “One of my career highlights has to be, becoming presenter of Football Focus.
“I still don’t think it’s sunk in to be honest.”
Alex explained that her progression on-screen was thanks to Dan Walker who also fronts BBC Breakfast.
The star said: “I know a part of my process and progress on-screen has been down to the help of Dan Walker.
“He’s someone from my first appearance on the show, sitting alongside him on the show — he’s always been willing to give me advice.”
She went on to say: “I know I’m not perfect, I’m still not polished, I’ll try and once again to grow and bring some fun, some heartwarming stories and some entertainment.
“I hope everyone loves the show just as much as they did and just how much I’m going to give to the show.”
