Anne Hegerty: The Chase star apologises after disruption on This Morning sparks chaos

The Chasers Road Trip: Anne Hegerty on taking part in the show

Anne Hegerty, who is best known as The Governess on The Chase, was joined by her co-stars Mark Labbett and Shaun Wallace on This Morning today. The quizmasters discussed their new ITV show The Chaser’s Road Trip: Trains, Brains And Automobiles.

The 62-year-old began discussing how the trio travelled through America in an RV before the brain whizz was interrupted.

Anne began: “I hadn’t really taken on board the phrase RV, I thought in terms of a minibus or something like that.

“And I went into the car park and looked at it and I said no I can’t do that.”

At that moment, The Governess’ home phone began to ring in the background which she attempted to ignore.

The Chase star continued to talk to This Morning presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

However, Phillip didn’t appear to let Anne off the hook, as he cheekily chuckled: “Whose phone is that? Are you going to get it?”

Holly joked: “I bet that’s Bradley [Walsh] I think. He’s going ‘Oi, you three!”

Bradley is the main presenter on the popular quiz show The Chase.

Phillip later said: “Did you get it? Oh, the phone’s stopped now.”

The Governess was quick to offer an apology, as she confirmed: “[The phone] has just gone to voicemail, sorry.”

Despite the interruption, Anne and her co-stars discussed their latest show which sees the quizmasters travel the globe as they put their knowledge to the test.

The show aims to shed a light on human intelligence and whether we are as smart as we believe ourselves to be.

Shaun said filming was “exhilarating”, as he joked: “Mark’s driving was a bit suspect at times, but that was because he was driving an RV on roads he wasn’t familiar with.”

Mark then quipped: “They said you’re driving it and only gave me a few minutes in a parking lot and said go for it!'”

They even put their wits to the test against Kanzi, a Bonobo ape, who is able to communicate with humans using pictures and symbols on a Lexigram.

Speaking about the challenge, Mark recalled: “Kanzi is like the Einstein of the primate world, he’s been doing pictograms all his life and we had thirty minutes to learn all of these images which was quite hard.

“I think he got 30 out of 30, and I think we got 16 or 17, each of us.”

Anne added: “Kanzi has been learning these symbols for years and years and we only had half an hour.”

Viewers get a chance to see The Chase quizmasters get put through their paces in their new show.

The Chaser’s Road Trip: Trains, Brains and Automobiles airs tonight on ITV at 9pm.
