Barry Keoghan has criticised British Airways for its “bad customer service” after losing his suitcase on the way to Los Angeles for the Oscars.

The Irish actor, 30, said he was taking “tons of sentimental stuff” for the awards ceremony on Sunday and that the airline could not “seem to be helpful in one bit”.

Keoghan is nominated for best supporting actor at the 95th Academy awards for his role in dark Irish comedy The Banshees Of Inisherin.

In a now-deleted tweet posted on Wednesday, he wrote: “Lost my suitcase with @‌British_Airways and they can’t seem to be any way helpful in one bit.

“Here in LA for Oscars and had tons of sentimental stuff I wanted to wear and bring with me.

“Such bad customer service. Sent me to LAX to tell me they can’t help me. Tut tut.”

According to Irish Mirror, British Airways responded to his tweet with an automated message which read: "We're sorry to hear what happened. Please send us your WorldTracer bag reference number via DM along with as much information as possible so we can take a closer look. We may need to ask you a few more questions for data protection."

Keoghan’s best supporting actor nod is his first Oscars nomination, and he will go head to head with Banshees co-star Brendan Gleeson in the category.

He previously won the Bafta award for best supporting actor for his performance in the film, in which he plays the dim-witted Dominic Kearney.

When accepting the award, Barry sheepishly told the audience he “should have planned this, really” before thanking his co-stars and Ireland.

He also dedicated the award to children from the area he comes from, in Summerhill, Dublin.

The Banshees’ other stars, Colin Farrell and Kerry Condon, are also nominated at this year’s Oscars, in the best actor and best supporting actress categories respectively.

The film picked up a total of nine nominations at the ceremony, including a coveted best picture nod.

The Banshees of Inisherin will compete with films such as Everything Everywhere All at Once, Women Talking and Top Gun: Maverick, which is Tom Cruise's fourth Academy Award nomination.

Some of Barry's other works include Dunkirk alongside Cillian Murphy and Harry Styles, Chernobyl, and The Killing of a Sacred Deer.

The 95th Academy Awards will take place on March 12 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
