Gogglebox’s Tom Malone, 26, is leaving the show to explore new opportunities, but admitted he often worried he’d say “something stupid” during his time as a cast member. The reality star joined the show in 2014 as part of the Malone family with his mum Julie, dad Tom Senior and little brother Shaun.

Taking to Twitter, he shared a picture of himself holding a sign which read: “Back on the market. Get at me with any TV work.”

He continued in a statement: “So after six years it’s finally time to put down the remote and say goodbye to Gogglebox.

“I’ve loved every minute and I’m eternally grateful to Channel 4 and Studio Lambert for allowing me to be a part of the show.

“But new opportunities are knocking on the door and it’s time to explore them.”

He added: “I look forward to enjoying the show as a viewer and not having to worry about having said something stupid!

“P.S. Don’t worry my parents and my brother will still be on the show to keep you guys entertained every Friday.”

He concluded his post with the two flutes of champagne emoji, adding: “To the future.”

Tom and his mum were the first members of the family to be scouted for the show at a Manchester dance studio.

The reality star, who is also a professional dancer, explained how they got onto the show on TikTok.

In response to a fan, he said: “The cast rang up a dance studio in Manchester and asked if they knew anyone good for the show.

“The owner of the studio suggested me and my mum, as I worked there at the time as a dance teacher and my mum worked on reception.

“They came in the next day, me and my mum had no idea. They said to her, ‘Are you Julie Malone?’

He went on to demonstrate a warm-up move he was doing at the time with his head against the wall.

“As you can imagine I looked like an absolute crazy person, I was actually trying to work out why my windmill to my head wasn’t working correctly.

“They must’ve looked at me and looked at my mum and thought these lot are crazy.”

But, scouters weren’t put off as the family went on to have a test shoot for the show.

“They got us in to do a test shoot, met my family and the rest is history.”

In a separate video, he said one of the best perks of the show was getting a free takeaway during filming.

The new series of Gogglebox kicks off tomorrow at 9pm on Channel 4.
