Only Fools and Horses star John Challis has died at the age of 79. The actor lost his battle with cancer his family revealed in a statement today.

How did John Challis die?

John’s loved ones confirmed that he had died “peacefully in his sleep” after a battle with cancer in a tribute shared via Twitter.

He is probably best known for playing Terrance ‘Boyice’ Boyce in the popular sitcom alongside Sir David Jason as Del Boy.

As also appeared in spin off series The Green Green Grass, as well as Coronation Street and Doctor Who over the years.

“It is with heavy hearts that we bring you such sad news. Our dear friend and yours, John Challis, has died peacefully in his sleep, after a long battle with cancer,” the statement read.

“He will always be loved for being ‘Boycie’ and leaves a great legacy of work that will continue to bring pleasure and smiles for many years to come.

“Please respect the privacy of John’s family and friends at this difficult time, and be assured that in the future there will be an occasion to celebrate John’s life – when everyone will be welcome to come along,” it read.

Earlier this year it was revealed that John had secretly been battling cancer for two years.

He made the admission after cancelling his One Man And Boycie tour.

At the time, his tour promoter said: “Due to ill health, John Challis’s tour is cancelled with immediate effect.

“John received a cancer diagnosis two years hence and is not fit to perform.”
