Give Us A Clue star Lionel Blair died surrounded by his family, with no cause of death currently known. Back in January, the performer seemed to be in high spirits as he discussed the coronavirus vaccine in his final TV interview on Good Morning Britain.

Lionel joined presenters Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway via video call after receiving two doses of the jab.

Speaking from his home in Surrey, he said: “It’s just been wonderful.

“I want to thank the scientists for getting this together. It’s just wonderful what they’ve done.”

He went on to say he was feeling “fine” and said the vaccine was the “best birthday present I could have had”.

Lionel jokingly added that he did “as he was told” when it came to his health and had the flu jab every year.

At the time, viewers praised his energetic appearance on social media.

David Forrest wrote: “@GMB how fantastic to see how well Lionel Blair looks and I was absolutely gobsmacked when my wife said he’s 92 years old!

“Absolute inspiration to us all! Mega respect!”

Another echoed that they were also stunned by his age.

Lionel’s showbiz career spanned seven decades including his roles as an actor, dancer and presenter.

He was best known for being a team captain on the TV game show Give Us A Clue.

More recently, he appeared in the likes of Celebrity Big Brother and The Real Marigold Hotel.

In 2017, the actor said he felt blessed to have beaten cancer and discussed how he kept fit.

Speaking on Loose Women, he revealed it was tap dancing every day that helped him stay in shape.

The broadcaster was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2008 but successfully beat the disease.

He spilled: “It’s not something that I dwell on because I believe in looking forward and not back but I will always be grateful to my GP for detecting it and the care that I received.”

On finding out the news, he said: “It was an absolute shock.”

Tributes have flooded in for the late star on social media following his death.

Carol Vorderman wrote on Twitter: “Remembering Lionel Blair. I met Lionel many times and he was ALWAYS kind and smiling, a family man, energetic, a grafter, just lovely to be around.”

“My thoughts are with his family who he adored and was so proud of.”

Piers Morgan added: “RIP Lionel Blair, 92.

“A wonderful all-round entertainer & lovely man. Sad news.”
