Love Island 's Jacques O'Neill has snubbed the show's reunion party, taking place on Thursday evening, in a bid to avoid his former flame Paige Thorne and her new love interest Adam Collard.

Rugby player Jacques, 23, and Swansea paramedic Paige, 24, endured a tumultuous love story after meeting on this year's series of the hit ITV2 show, before things went downhill after Jacques shared a number of steamy smooches with bombshells in Casa Amor.

He tried to patch things up with Paige, including writing a long love note for her on his Love Island phone, before producers sent in Adam Collard, 26, who immediately got to know Paige.

It all proved too much for Jacques, who sensationally quit the villa amidst mental health battles and fears that he could "get physical" if he remained in there.

Jacques and Paige had a heartbreaking and tearful conversation on the terrace as he told her he was leaving, and subsequently he told his shocked fellow Islanders as they sat around the fire pit.

After Paige admitting she "had a feeling that he was going to leave", she quickly coupled up with Adam, and the pair remained together for the rest of the series before being voted out the night before the final.

The show's contestants are joining together at a big reunion party in London tonight, thrown by ITV bosses and, according to reports, they will all be put up in a fancy hotel for the night.

According to The Sun, Jacques will not be in attendance at the party, to avoid any awkward run-ins with his ex, Paige and Adam.

A source said: “Everybody is getting together for a huge party tonight in London.

“ITV has put everyone up in a hotel so there’s no need for anyone to miss out.

“Unfortunately Jacques has decided he’s just not ready to see Paige quite yet and especially not with Adam.

“He’s made the decision to wait for a more suitable moment to talk to her again after everything he’s been through.”

After Jacques left the Love Island villa, Paige took to the Beach Hut to talk about his departure, saying: “Honestly, I had a feeling that he was going to leave. It was really hard hearing him say it out loud, but I knew there was nothing I could say to make him want to change his mind.

“I knew that wouldn’t be right. I fully supported his decision, absolutely I could never have sat there and asked him to stay.”

She added: “It did cross my mind a little bit to leave with him, but things hadn’t been 100% all the way through, and the fact that they weren’t was what made me think.

“The fact that I stayed and I gave 100% to the experience and found something new and something more suited towards me just goes to show that everything happens for a reason.”
