The 46-year-old Wakefield native came out as gay nine years ago while she was with her ex Rosie Nicoll, who she married, then later split two years down the line.

Since being with producer wife Kate Brooks, who she shares a son with, the couple have received threats so worrying ‘police have had to be called’.

Worrying: Emmerdale actress Michelle Hardwick has stepped up security at her Leeds home after homophobic death threats continue to put her family’s safety at risk

On Monday, the soap star, who plays Vanessa Woodfield in Emmerdale, took to her Instagram stories to share her gratitude to a local security company who helped her ramp up protection around her northern countryside family home.

She wrote to her 125,000 followers: ‘Just wanted to say what fantastic service we have had from the very first phone call to the end result.

‘Anyone local to the Leeds/Wakefield area who needs any security solutions then look no further than @msc.security.solutions.

‘This was a fully paid for job, not a paid ad. I just wanted to post because they were fabulous.’

Family of three: Since being with producer wife Kate Brooks, who she shares a son with, the couple have received threats so worrying ‘police have had to be called’

Michelle revealed in May that the couple have had ‘horrific’ trolling which showed them the ‘real dark side’ to social media, despite the ‘majority of people’ being ‘wonderful and supportive’.

She told OK! Magazine at the time: ‘We’ve had a bit of trolling over the last few years. And there have been certain times when police have had to be called because there have been death threats.

‘When they’re mentioning your son’s name and you’re just going ‘Really? I’m just in a soap you know – we’re not doing any harm to anybody.’

The couple are now currently expecting their second child, a baby girl, after doing a live television gender reveal last month.

The Emmerdale actress, 46, shared the exiting news on ITV’s Loose Women saying: ‘So baby number two is a little girl.’

The couple are also parents to son Teddy, who they welcomed in October 2020, and joined them on the show to reveal the happy news.

Michelle and Kate revealed their donor is also Teddy’s biological father and he is open to meeting the children when they’re 18 if they wish to see him.
