Prince Harry *Will* Be Allowed to Wear His Military Uniform to the Queen’s Vigil After Public Outcry

In a surprising turn of events, it turns out that Prince Harry *will* be allowed to wear his military uniform to the Queen’s final vigil after initial reports stated he was banned from doing so despite an exception being made for disgraced royal Prince Andrew.

𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄: In a dramatic u-turn, palace officials have informed Prince Harry that he CAN wear his military uniform at a final vigil. On Saturday evening, Harry will join seven other grandchildren at Westminster Hall to stand in silence for 15 minutes by the Queen’s coffin.

Initially, non-senior working royals were not permitted to wear military garbs to the vigil, but Andrew was granted permission despite being stripped of his titles earlier this year amid a huge scandal that involved convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Prince Harry, for his part, wasn’t initially allowed to wear the honorary garbs given that he and his wife Meghan Markle made the decision to step back as senior royals in January 2020. But that definitely didn’t stop the masses from coming to the Duke of Sussex’s defense when Andrew was given permission to wear his uniform as a non-working royal, prompting a statement from the Sussex spokesperson earlier this week that said:

The reversal—first reported by The Mirror—follows Harry’s statement saying his “military service is not determined by the uniform he wears”, but it is understood the Palace caved to public sentiment after thousands complained about the decision to ban him and not Prince Andrew.

A refresher: According to royal reporter and author Omid Scobie’s initial reporting, “Only working members of the royal family will wear military uniforms for ceremonial events honoring the Queen over next week: procession and service in Edinburgh today, coffin procession to Westminster Hall (and vigil that follows), state funeral, final committal in Windsor.”

Once Andrew was given an exception, spectators called out the double standard in treatment between him and Prince Harry, though it now seems rectified. Glad the palace came to its senses!
